Portrait of Nikki Stefanoff, Brand Storyteller.

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved telling stories.

From the ages of seven to 10 they always seemed to include a haunted house and, for some unknown reason, a protagonist called Stephanie, but I like to think I’ve moved on.

Telling stories as a career was always my goal so I began by studying for a degree in film and scriptwriting before completing a postgraduate degree in journalism.

After a stint in a busy newspaper newsroom I worked with BBC Worldwide on a new magazine launch, caught the magazine bug and spent the following seven years in London editing, writing and commissioning for brands such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and the Dorchester Collection. Whether commissioning writers from Vogue, Esquire, Wallpaper or Wired or working with brands such as La Mer, Pandora, Bobbi Brown or Sennheiser my brief was always the same – find the brand’s story and discover the best way to tell it.

While the majority of my career has been spent brand storytelling I have also written for consumer titles such as Elle, Yoga Magazine, The Daily Mail, The Independent and the lifestyle websites and, among others.

Now based in Melbourne I work solely with clients on finding their unique brand story and deciding on the best way to tell it.

Outside of work my favourite place in Melbourne to tell stories is 100 Story Building. I work with the team on a number of different creative writing projects for local kids and still tell a haunted house story or two to anyone prepared to listen.
